Classic Stat-Check Kassadin

Kassadin · Mid lane · Mana assassin · Hard

Survive the ranged lane, accumulate health, mana, and AP, then attack fights from an angle the opponent cannot cover twice. Kassadin's famous late-game threat still begins with disciplined early waves.

QUICK ANSWER

Build Catalyst into Rod of Ages, then Archangel's Staff and Rabadon's Deathcap. Use Riftwalk to reposition before committing; repeated casts drain mana quickly, so keep an exit budget.

PURCHASE ORDER

Every recall solves a problem.

01

Start

Sapphire CrystalHealth Potion

Mana components accelerate the first durability-and-resource breakpoint.

02

First recall

Catalyst the ProtectorBoots of Speed

Catalyst is the stable lane buy; Tear is the greedy alternative when pressure is low.

Stat core

Rod of AgesArchangel's StaffRabadon's Deathcap

The route stacks health, mana, and AP before asking Kassadin to take repeated Riftwalk angles.

Penetration or safety

Void Staff

Penetration answers resistance; stasis or a spell shield protects the second entry.

WHY IT WORKS

The mechanics behind the memory.

01

The core condenses health, mana, and AP into one inventory, giving a melee mage enough raw stats to enter more than once.

02

Riftwalk turns a stored mana pool into repeated access. The build is strongest when mana is treated as a finite number of entries, not an unlimited mobility bar.

RUNES & MASTERIES

Set up the playstyle before queue.

RUNES & MASTERIES

  • Magic penetration marks
  • Mana regeneration seals
  • Scaling ability power glyphs
  • Movement speed quintessences

Skill order

Prioritize the main ranged damage and silence tool, then Force Pulse; take Riftwalk whenever available. Confirm the exact client tooltip before locking a page.

Core combo

Poke and interrupt with Q, stack Force Pulse through spell casts, then Riftwalk from fog → E → W and leave with enough mana for one more Riftwalk.

Mastery baseline

Testing baseline: 9/0/21 for mana, cooldowns, and movement. Move points into defense against lanes that can repeatedly force health trades.

GAME PLAN

How to pilot each phase.

01

Opening

Give up unsafe minions rather than losing the health needed to reach Catalyst. Keep the wave on your side when possible.

02

Trading

Use the silence to shorten return damage, not merely for chip. A trade is good when you leave before the opponent's longer range matters again.

03

Power spikes

Catalyst stabilizes; level access to Riftwalk changes lane geometry; completed Rod plus Archangel creates the first repeat-entry window.

04

Mid game

Enter side angles after the first control spell is used. Clear short side waves only when you know how many Riftwalks are required to return.

05

Teamfights

Threaten the backline without spending every stack immediately. The possibility of a second entry is often stronger than one expensive first jump.

Strengths

  • Repeated terrain-crossing access
  • Strong scaling from concentrated mana and AP
  • Punishes isolated magic-damage carries

Weaknesses

  • Vulnerable ranged early lane
  • Riftwalk costs can exhaust the escape budget
  • Hard control punishes predictable entries

COMMON MISTAKES

How the build actually fails.

  1. Using Riftwalk for arrival and having no mana to leave
  2. Buying pure damage before lane durability
  3. Showing on the front of a fight instead of creating a side angle

FAQ

FAQ

Why is this called a stat-check build?

The route deliberately concentrates health, mana, and AP so Kassadin can survive and repeat short-range entries. It does not mean matchups or execution stop mattering.

Should Tear come before Catalyst?

Only in a low-pressure lane. Catalyst is the safer first recall because a dead Kassadin stacks neither Tear nor Rod.

SOURCES & STATUS

Evidence before certainty.

Riot explicitly recalls Kassadin's historic 95% ban rate. This guide describes the Classic kit and a testing build, not current match statistics.
